htgProject details Mali 2008 → 2010 Education Housing Partenaire(s): Description 'Jabolo Diabolo' or Diabolo School. The objective of the JFP Foundation's commitment via the financial support given to this project was to help improve the schooling conditions of primary school children in a small bush village in Mali: Diabolo. This was done via the construction of school infrastructure (classrooms and latrines) using sustainable materials, and by equipping these classrooms (benches, tables, blackboards, etc.). Context Rural schools in Mali experience great difficulties in performing their task of providing an education. These include the harsh working conditions, demotivated teachers, the virtual non-existence of school supplies and teaching tools, makeshift classrooms that are too few and unfit for purpose, etc. Duration and location The project took place in the village of Diabolo, located 7 km from Djenné and accessed by a rough track, and 574 km from the capital Bamako. It benefited from the JFP Foundation's support from 2007 to 2009. Beneficiaries The children, and more generally, the entire community living in Diabolo, benefited from these new school buildings. Achievements and results The support enabled the permanent construction of three additional classrooms in fired bricks, with concrete foundations, door and windows, and the supply of the furniture required to make them operational. Three blocks of latrines were also built, along with a water tower. Partner 'Les deux côtés BE – ML' ASBL, the JFP Foundation's partner for this project, is a Belgian humanitarian association established in 2008. Its main objective is to improve education in Mali, and in particular the schooling of primary children and their well-being at school.
